- At our heart, we are a community based organization and all our programs are focused on supporting people to live great lives in the community. We know that's where people thrive and we know that if communities can be more accepting and inclusive then we'll all be better off for it. - Hey, I'm Wogga. I'm a participant from Wellways. The HASI program I joined in 2017. I was bit homeless at the start. - Primarily trying to find people suitable accommodation that can benefit them in their mental health recovery. You know, when they're safe and they're warm, they're outta the weather. And then you can tailor support for that person. - One message I'd have for the community about suicide prevention is that it's hard to ask for help, but once you do, things will get better. - If everyone can ask someone that they think is struggling, are they okay? Then that one person can ask someone else, and it's a domino effect. And I think it needs to be a community based effort. Our communities need to look after each other. - It's important to check in with your neighbors and your loved ones, especially in these very trying times. Outwardly they're probably putting on a very brave face. - If the community as a wider whole have access to the knowledge and the facilities to help, I think we can go a long way towards preventing some of these tragedies that have happened. And it's something we must address. - [Narrator] We work with communities across the country, mainly in regional Australia. - My name is Meadbh, and I am a full-time carer for my mum that has dementia. My caring role kind of started to come into play at around 13. It was very difficult, particularly in the first few years of becoming a carer for my mum, 'cause I felt very isolated and very alone, and a lot of times I wasn't able to go out with friends. So my mum actually found Carer Gateway herself, 'cause she saw that I needed a bit more support. Through Carer Gateway I was able to get some access to tutoring, as well as helping getting school supplies and things like that, which was really helpful. - Hi everyone, I'm Amielle. I'm the Community Engagement Worker for the Barwon region. I'm also a proud trans and gender queer person. I use he/him or they/them pronouns. Out Social is an LGBTIQ+ social group that we've been running really successfully online during isolation, and we're about to start running our first community gatherings in person again, which is really exciting. - We've had Royal Commissions into disability, into aged care and into mental health. And what it's all told us is that we need to ensure we have the services to enable people to live a full life in the community. And that's where Wellways has its heart, in the community. And we wanna make sure that we can enable people with lived experience, to stay in the community, enjoy the community and live a full life in the community.
